Plan your marriage now

Marrying in Thailand means spending days in the country while the paperwork is processed. Most of those days are empty. A tailoring order needs days as well, and roughly the same number of them. This article sets the two side by side, and says what two partners ordering together should settle first.

If you plan to register your marriage in Thailand, our marriage registration service covers the documents, the legalization and the district office for one fixed fee.

The days you already have

If you bring your documents with you, the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs certifies them after you land. That step takes three to five working days, with no guaranteed maximum. Your originals reach us at the start of the trip. The days that follow are yours. That is the window a tailoring order has to fit inside.

Made to measure and bespoke

Made to measure and bespoke are not the same grade, and shops use the two words differently. The shops quoted below describe bespoke work, in which a pattern is drafted for one body rather than adjusted from an existing template. Ask which grade you are being quoted. The published sequence is much the same. A consultation comes first, covering the cloth, the lining, the lapel and the buttons. Measurements come next. Perfect Tailor's own page says the shop then drafts a pattern unique to your body. AMBFA's wedding page says the shop takes more than thirty body measurements and cuts a personal pattern from scratch. The garment is then made up and tried on, and the fit corrected on your body.

How many fittings and how many days

The published fitting counts are similar. Perfect Tailor's page says most bespoke suits go through two to three fittings, with the first setting the structure and the later ones refining the fit. Om Fashion's page says one or two fittings for most garments, with alterations during the fitting carrying no extra charge.

The day counts differ far more. Om Fashion says most garments are ready in two to three days. AMBFA gives three to eight days in store for a full bespoke wedding order. A shop that quotes weeks rather than days is describing a different order. Three to eight days may fit inside a marriage trip, depending on what your own case needs. Settle which of the two you are buying before you settle on a shop.

Express service

Several shops publish a fast service. Perfect Tailor's page says a fully fitted suit can be completed within a day if you arrive early and confirm the fabric and the style on the spot. Om Fashion offers twelve to twenty-four hours where the fabric and the workshop schedule allow.

Read the conditions in those sentences. The fast service depends on the cloth being in the shop and on the workshop's schedule, and it is confirmed case by case rather than promised in advance. We promise nothing about any shop's turnaround. Go to the shop in the first days of the trip rather than the last, because your registration day is fixed late rather than early. Ask the shop what spacing the fittings need.

Ordering as two people

The Bangkok pages we read are written for one groom and the men standing beside him. Om Fashion is the exception, with a women's tailoring section for suits, blazers and dresses. Two partners ordering together are still a different customer. Two garments are cut at the same time, from two patterns, for two bodies, on one schedule.

Book both of you into one appointment, so that each fitting happens once rather than twice. Decide before the first visit whether the garments are meant to match, to differ, or to share a single element such as a lining or a tie, because that choice changes the cloth order. Ask whether the shop holds enough of your chosen cloth for two garments, since a length that covers one suit may not cover two. AMBFA's wedding page says the shop regularly tailors complete wedding parties and coordinates fittings, fabrics and styling across the group. Om Fashion's page says it arranges group fittings at your hotel.

Thai silk

Om Fashion's own page lists Thai silk suits, shirts, dresses, ties, scarves, pocket squares and cufflinks made to order, and says the silk is chosen for the tropical climate. The same page publishes starting figures of 6,000 baht (~180 USD) for a custom suit, 6,500 baht (~195 USD) for a ladies suit and 1,500 baht (~45 USD) for a shirt. Those are starting figures, not a quotation, and two garments are two orders. A couple who does not want two new suits can ask about two ties or two scarves instead.

Pride Legal Thailand was created to become the platform for the LGBTQ community around the world looking to get married in Thailand. Our work is the legal half, the documents, the translation, the ministry step and the district office that registers the marriage, made plannable from abroad and completable in a single trip. We are not a tailor and we recommend no shop. The shops named above are named only from what they publish themselves. We tell you what the legal half needs and when, so you can judge for yourselves which of your days are likely to be free.

Pride Legal Thailand arranges the registration of marriages in Thailand for two people of any gender and any nationality. The fee is ฿49,000 (~1,480 USD) for both partners, fixed, with VAT and government fees included; registration outside the Bangkok region costs ฿10,000 (~300 USD) more.

To register your own marriage in Thailand, tell ELSA your nationalities and your dates on the Marriage page: she lists your documents and your timeline, and our lawyer confirms the plan. The steps in order: how two foreigners can get married in Thailand.
